What is up with some plane stopping because someone passed gas and lit a match?

Was it really necessary to stop the plane for that?

Not to mention that it was really stupid to light a match in a plane these days.|||Well it was one of MY friends the situation could have been explosive or noxious. Better safe than sorry...|||If U are in a plane, and U smell burned sulfer, there is no way of knowing what ahs just happend. Not to mention that most airlines are none smoking, so lighting a match might be for something you are not allowed, and it might also be something more dangerous. Besides, something can catch fire in there.|||Hindsight is 20/20.

The truth is you'd never know what the matches are for. Remember the alleged shoe bomber trying to light his shoes (with explosives packed inside)? There aren't supposed to be any matches onboard, PERIOD, and upon finding some the plane should land immediately and completely searched top to bottom.|||I heard that one over the radio. It was purely a case of misunderstanding and the decision made by the crew on board the plane and the ground command was to put the safety of the passengers first . Thus the unscheduled landing.

The news said that there was a very strong mysterious odor coming from the lavatories. It was soo bad and they couldnt find anything there upon inspection.

If I was a passenger on that plane , I would have been happy to land. Wouldnt you?|||It's someone being stupid and wanting their name in the news. Common sense should tell you NOT to do what this person did.
