Where can I find information on becoming a farmer?

I don't want to hear the "you aren't good enough" or "its not the lifestyle you think it is"

I just want information on growing different crops and becoming a small 50-100 acre small time farmer. I currently live in colorado but I would prefer to move out of the state but stay in a relatively cool area.

Are their any good books or websites with a lot of general information? Not necessarily organic just farming. And then also I would like websites with more specific information. Thanks in advance.|||Go down and talk with the local county extension agent. You can either visit the one in the county in which you want to start farming or any one that's close. Here in Texas they're usually based out of the county courthouse, but you can always find the closest one using the Internet. They are here as a resource to provide information, answer questions and help farmers be more productive. They can also point you in the direction of resources that will help you determine suitable farming conditions, crops, water and soil issues that pertain to farming.

There's also usually a federal government official somewhere in the vicinity of the extension agent. If not in the same courthouse, often in the same city. They have different names so I honestly can't tell you exactly what to look for. The county extension agent will be able to put you in contact with them. They are great resources as well for learning about government requirements and permitting that regulate farming, soil, water and environmental issues. They also have info on government subsidies and related assistance program that are available to farmers.

Hope this helps.|||A University.... Library...The Agriculture section..

The Old Timers will have all the Common Sense and save money short-cuts, but won't know the science behind what they're doing

Check with them, whether the public can access books, "ours" would ,but if a student needed a certain book that I might have had I had to return the book,..The situation never occurred,...They have a huge selection of related books .|||http://www.attra.org
