What happens to the information of particles when sucked into a black hole?

Steven Hawkings said that black holes that exist in one universe cancel out black holes in another universe thus no information is lost. I tried to figure this out on paper but either information was lost or added to another universe. Is the information just like (i) imaginary numbers? Or what?? I'm having a hard time understanding this. Anyone familiar with the subject please explain Stephen Hawkings theory to me.|||I don't believe Hawking ever presented this theory (or if he did it was a thought experiment, not a serious proposition). His newest theory as far as I've heard is nothing of the sort.

I recommend reading this:

Which provides a pretty decent, reasonably understandable high level overview of the paradox and how it might be resolved.|||Anything in the black hole will be crushed into pieces.
